چکیده
The methanolic extract of the whole plant of Echium glomeratum Poir. (Boraginaceae) has afforded five pyrrolizidine alkaloids, three that were (7S, 8R)-petranine (1), (7S, 8S)-petranine (2), and (7R, 8R)-petranine (3a) or (7R, 8S)-petranine (3b), comprising a tricyclic pyrrolizidine alkaloids subclass; and two that were known but to the species: 7-angeloylretronecine (4) and 9-angeloylretronecine (5). All compounds were tested against a human tumor panel for cytotoxicity; no activity was observed (EC50 values > 20 μg/ml). Graphical abstract: Five pyrrolizidine alkaloids were isolated from Echium glomeratum Poir. (Boraginaceae). Three of these were (7S, 8R)-petranine (1), (7S, 8S)-petranine (2), and (7R, 8R)-petranine (3a) or (7R, 8S)-petranine (3b), and two were known but to the species: 7-angeloylretronecine (4) and 9-angeloylretronecine (5).

متن کاملPyrrolizidine alkaloids of Echium vulgare honey found in pure pollen.
The pyrrolizidine alkaloids previously identified in floral honey attributed to Echium vulgare (Boraginaceae) have been detected (8000-14 000 ppm) in pure pollen collected from the anthers of Echium vulgare. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids and/or their N-oxides were isolated from the aqueous acid extracts of pollen by use of strong cation-exchange, solid-phase extraction and identified by liquid chroma...

Echimidine was isolated from Echium rauwolfii and Echium horridum and identified by MS, 1H- and 13C NMR as a major alkaloid. In addition, structures of 12 minor alkaloids were inferred from GLC and GLC-MS analyses: 7-angeloylretronecine, 7-tigloylretronecine, lycopsamine, 7-acetyllycopsamine, uplandicine, 7-angeloyllycopsamine, 7-tigloyllycopsamine, tigloyl isomer of echimidine, 7-angeloyl-9-(2...
متن کاملPyrrolizidine Alkaloids from Echium vulgare in Honey Originate Primarily from Floral Nectar.
Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) in honey can be a potential human health risk. So far, it has remained unclear whether PAs in honey originate from pollen or floral nectar. We obtained honey, nectar, and plant pollen from two observation sites where Echium vulgare L. was naturally abundant. The PA concentration of honey was determined by targeted analysis using a high pressure liquid chromatograph...

One adenoma and one adenocarcinoma of the islet cells and one adenoma of the exocrine pancreas were found in 3 out of 15 rats given a single dose (500 to 1500 mg/kg body weight) of pyrrolizidine alkaloids from Amsinckia intermedia Fisch and Mey (Boraginaceae), tarweed, a plant known to cause livestock losses from liver damage in the United States. Among rats treated with Heliotropium supinum L....
